Hindraf coordinator states condition for support

[get_post_meta single=1 key="byline"] | April 2, 2009 1 Comment

PENANG, 2 April 2009: Hindraf national coordinator R Thanenthiran today expressed his support for any candidate in the Bukit Selambau state by-election in Kedah who is determined to raise the living standard of the people regardless of race.

He said the support was not confined to any independent candidate or the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate but also encompassed the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate.

Fifteen people are contesting the Bukit Selambau by-election on 7 April, and they comprise Datuk S Ganesan of the BN, S Manikumar of PKR and 13 independents.

Thanenthiran told reporters he did not know the PKR candidate though the latter claimed to be a member of Hindraf, the Hindu Rights Action Force, but added that he knew the BN candidate.

He also said that he welcomed the change the BN was effecting, with Umno deputy president and International Trade and Industry Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin presenting financial aid for the development of Tamil schools.

“This is an effort to restore the confidence of the people in the BN leadership, and we welcome this,” he said.

On another matter, Thanenthiran denied having received money to pay his hospital bill from MIC president Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu when the latter called on him recently.

He said he paid his own hospital bill. He also said that he did not stop any leader who wanted to visit him in hospital. — Bernama

Well, so much for the integrity of Hindraf. Hey wait, that is a Bernama story right?
