PUTRAJAYA, 13 Oct 2008: Avoid extremism in politicking when contesting for party posts as this could create tension within the Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, said Umno Youth head Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
He said such practices should be checked as they gave the impression as though there were disputes within the component parties besides reflecting that the component parties were not adopting a common stand.
“Let us not create tension within the coalition during the party election especially on matters pertaining to race and religion.
“This will hinder our efforts to foster closer relations in the long-term,” said Hishammuddin, who is also the Education Minister, at his ministry’s Hari Raya Open House today.
Hishammuddin said this when commenting on the statement by Gerakan Wanita head Datuk Tan Lian Hoe who reminded everyone not to forget their origins.
Tan, who is also the Deputy Information Minister, said this in her speech at the 21st Gerakan Youth and Wanita Delegates Conference on Friday.
In addition, Tan was also said to have disputed the status of the Malays as the original inhabitants of this country in a programme produced by Astro Awani recently. — Bernama
