KUALA LUMPUR, 13 Feb 2009: The inquest into the death of local actress K Sujatha has been fixed for three days beginning 16 March.
Magistrate Mohd Fauzi Che Abu who would act as the coroner set the date here today after Deputy Public Prosecutor Geethan Ram Vincent said he would call seven to eight witnesses.
Among them was physician Dr S P Sakthiveloo from Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang who had treated Sujatha at the hospital, he said.
Sujatha died at the hospital on 25 June 2007, four days after her admission after allegedly drinking weed killer.
Police initially clasified the case as suicide but requested the inquest after suspecting foul play in her death following several police reports lodged by Kapar member of parliament (MP) S Manikavasagam.
Lawyer Datuk K Kumaraendran who acted for Sujatha’s family, when asked whether MIC president Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu’s son, Vell Paari, would be called as a witness in the inquest, said the prosecution had indicated he might be.
Sujatha had served as personal secretary to Vell Paari when he was Maika Holdings managing director. — Bernama
