KUALA LUMPUR, 12 June 2009: The Prisons Department has set up an inquiry board to investigate a fight that broke out between inmates and staff at the Sungai Buloh prison yesterday.
A statement issued by the Home Ministry today stated that the investigation would be conducted to also determine the cause of the fight.
“It started with an attack by five inmates on another, following which 18 others joined in,” it said.
The statement also stated that the on-duty prison inspector, Awang Sharin, hurt his hand while trying to break up the fight, and that those injured had been treated.
The situation at the Sungai Buloh Prison was now under control, and the Prisons Department would take appropriate action against those involved, the statement added. — Bernama
