KUALA LUMPUR: Karpal Singh (Bukit Gelugor-DAP) along with a few other witnesses will not appear at a parliamentary special committee set up to probe the scuffle involving him and Selangor Umno Youth members.
Karpal said three other DAP MPs — Lim Lip Eng (Segambut), Fong Po Kuan (Batu Gajah) and Fong Kui Lun (Bukit Bintang) — who have been called as witnesses would also boycott the committee at its meeting next Tuesday.
Asked if any action can be taken against him for not attending the meeting, he said: “I wonder if they can. I don’t think they can do anything if I don’t turn up and I don’t think there are any consequences if I don’t.”
Karpal, who received a letter yesterday asking him to testify before the committee, added that it was just an ordinary committee and not a select or privileges committee and thus had no powers.
He told reporters that the identities of the men involved in the scuffle were evident and the video clip was available in YouTube and Malaysiakini.
He also said Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia had seen the video and should just bring the three men to the House instead of operating through the committee.
