SUNGAI PETANI, 18 Feb 2009: The salaries of all Kedah executive council members will be cut by five percent, and the money will go to the Tunku Mahmud Fund, a charity managed by the state government.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak said the salary cut would start this month as part of the government’s efforts to help the needy in the state, particularly in this time of economic difficulties.
Speaking after chairing the weekly executive council meeting today, Azizan said he himself had been making personal contributions to the fund.
He said the state financial officer would also issue a letter to enable some 6,000 state civil servants to opt for a salary cut for the same purpose. — Bernama
