ALOR STAR, 10 Oct 2008: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today all state governments should introduce a housing policy or system that is realistic and balanced.
He said that the policy that was to be introduced should take into account the problems of the developers too instead of merely introducing a policy that would pose difficulties in its implementation.
He said this when commenting on the new policy of the Kedah state government that imposed a 50% quota for bumiputera for all types of houses in Kedah.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak described the policy as appropriate because the majority of the population in the state were bumiputera.
However, the policy was opposed by the Real Estate and Housing Developers Association which described it as a burden on the housing developers, and wanted the existing quota system of 30% allocation for bumiputera to be retained. — Bernama
