WASHINGTON, DC, 22 Jan 2009: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah congratulated Barack Obama’s inauguration as the 44th US president.
“We are confident that the warm and mutually beneficial relations that happily exist between our two countries will develop further and flourish under your new administration,” said the King in a letter dated 14 Jan to the new president.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, in his congratulatory letter, said Malaysia looked forward to working closely with the Obama administration in addressing issues of bilateral concern.
“Malaysia looks forward as well to your leadership in finding solutions to pressing international issues, in particular a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the Middle East,” he said in a 19 Jan letter. — Bernama
