PORT KLANG, 25 Nov 2008: Eight bottled water manufacturers have had their licence revoked while that of 31 other companies was suspended for violating conditions prescribed under the Food Regulations Act 1985.
Health Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said the companies whose licences were revoked were all involved in the manufacture of bottled water while of the 31 companies suspended, 15 manufactured bottled water while the other 16 processed mineral water.
He told this to reporters after making a visit to Evergreen Manufacturing Sdn Bhd’s water bottling plant in the Pulau Indah Industrial Park here today.
He said the companies that had their licences revoked or suspended were found not to be observing good manufacturing practices (GMP).
He added that the ministry would also be taking action against 12 companies that were found manufacturing bottled water without a licence and four companies whose bottled water products did not display the licence number on the labels. — Bernama
