PENANG, 25 Aug 2008: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today asked private companies in the state to give their workers a holiday tomorrow to enable eligible voters to cast their ballot in the Permatang Pauh by-election.
“We want to be fair, and under Section 9(1) of the Employment Act, private sector workers required to work tomorrow must be paid overtime,” he told a press conference today.
Yesterday, Lim announced that tomorrow would be state holiday to facilitate voting in the by-election.
Parti Keadilan Rakyat advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is involved in a three-cornered fight against the Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah and Hanafi Mamat of Angkatan Keadilan Insan Malaysia.
The Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency has an electorate of 58,459. – Bernama
