“The One Israel concept slogan is People First, while 1Malaysia is People First, Performance Now. Among the One Israel initiatives was to increase medical benefits; in Malaysia, 1Malaysia clinics were formed.”
OPPOSITION Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, alleging that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak‘s 1Malaysia concept was modelled after the One Israel concept. He said that this was masterminded via global communications consultancy Apco Worldwide‘s relationship with both Malaysia and Israel. For this, Anwar will now be referred to Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee for “misleading the House”. “When he is with the Jews, the Jews love him. When he is with the Muslims, the Muslims love him. When he is with the temple groups, they love him too. Everybody loves him…[He would make a] good prime minister of Israel.”
Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, evaluating Anwar. (Source: Dr M throws challenge over judicial crisis issue, The Star, 31 March 2008)
“The Europeans killed 6 million Jews out of 12 million. But today the Jews rule the world by proxy. They get others to fight and die for them…They invented socialism, communism, human rights and democracy, so that persecuting them would appear to be wrong, so that they can enjoy equal rights with others…With these they have gained control of the most powerful countries and they, this tiny community, have become a world power.”

“[Jews] had always been a problem in European countries. They had to be confined to ghettoes and periodically massacred. But still they remained, they thrived and they held whole governments to ransom.”
“Even after their massacre by the Nazis of Germany, they survived to continue to be a source of even greater problems for the world.”
Mahathir‘s anti-Jewish treatise expanded in recent times. (Source: If US could create ‘Avatar’, it could fake 9/11 attacks: Mahathir, Jakarta Globe, 21 Jan 2010)
“Ini serlahkan bahawa Umno adalah tali barut Yahudi zionis kerana dia (Umno) tak boleh menyatakan pendirian (tentang Apco).”
PAS vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar, joining the Apco fray and claiming that Umno are, in fact, Jewish agents. (Source: Apco serlahkan Umno tali barut Israel, Harakah Daily, 25 March 2010)
“Musa Hasan said in his statement that we were aware of the enforcement of the Israelis in the communication upgrading system and [would] inform the Home Ministry as soon as we learn about it.”
Anwar , claiming that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan acknowledged Israeli involvement in the Bukit Aman police headquarters in July 2008. Anwar claimed that the contractors working for Bukit Aman were in fact “Israeli intelligence”, or “agents of Tel Aviv”, who had infiltrated the police headquarters’ communications system. He denied that this was anti-Semitic on his part, but insinuated instead that the government was “slavish” to foreign interests. It’s so easy to blame the Jews for our problem. Jew, Jew, Jew. How many Malaysians own Levi’s jeans (Levi Strauss was a Jew)? So many of humanity’s achievements in science and technology were made by Jews (Albert Einstein, Fritz Haber, Max Born, Richard Feynman, Steven Weinberg – just to name a few, and all of them Nobel Prize winners). Shouldn’t we stop learning all this “Jewish” science?
I do not necessarily agree with some things that Israel does, especially where the Arab-Israeli conflict is concerned. But we can clearly see that for a rather small group of people (there are only about 15 million Jews worldwide), but they have made numerous contributions and have been able to exert considerable influence on world affairs.
Even after the horror of the Holocaust, where half of all European Jews were exterminated, they were able to rise from the ashes (though unfortunately, the Arab Palestinians were conveniently pushed aside by the international community in the creation of Israel).
Nothing like a bogeyman to distract us from our own inadequacies and our failings, and there’s no better bogeyman than the Jews.

When I was in college in Ireland we used to joke about Jews and anti-Semitism, because anti-Jewish beliefs seemed to belong either to another, long-passed, era or else nutcase conspiracy theorists. Either way it was an insignificant concept so ludicrous to us that we could joke about it.
Later I began to find occasional Pakistanis online who genuinely believed much of the 1930s-era Nazi anti-Jewish rhetoric. I couldn’t believe my eyes. People seriously believed the Jews controlled the media – despite endless anti-Israel commentry every time I opened a newspaper here. Sad and confusing to see these dead old theories still carry some power.
In my life I’ve met, I think, three Jewish people: one teacher, one student and one nutritionist. Run for the hills – they’re taking over!

I’m not sure what Anwar is really trying to say. Is it really about anti-Jew sentiments? Or is it about the possibility of Malaysian politics being manipulated by foreigners?
Imagine if Anwar had said “Apco is a Singaporean company, and 1Malaysia is a Singaporean concept.” How would the reactions be like to such a comment?

When I read about the 1Malaysia concept, I seriously thought they borrowed it from Singapore. After all we sang this song for our National Day celebration, I think in 1990. [It’s] one of the most popular national songs.
“We are Singapore…. We are Singapore….One people…One Nation… One Singapore…”

To Nurulhuda,
Sshh! Don’t say that too loud. The Malaysian Maverick has ears stuck on every wall. Say it softly, otherwise there will be no end to what we have to listen to from him. And don’t ever mention there were Israeli advisors either, it will cause a real big explosion! He he.
Your ever friendly jiran.
