NEW DELHI, 29 May 2009: In another case of domestic violence, a man tried to kill his wife by battering her with a hammer and throwing her out of his first-floor residence for serving bad chapati.
Sanjay Singh, who works as a photographer in eastern Delhi, was reported to have returned home for lunch yesterday and asked his wife, Manju, 34, to serve some food.
According to the Asian Age, which reported the story, Sanjay Singh was irritated with the chapati served to him and a heated squabble broke out between the couple.
In a fit of rage, he picked up a hammer and struck Manju on her chest, head and shoulders and later dumped her out of the window, according to the children who witnessed the crime.
The police said Sanjay Singh’s mother rushed Manju to a nearby hospital where she is said to be in a critical condition due to the injuries and unable to give any statements.
The couple has three children and the man’s mother had reported the case to the police.
The 37-year-old husband has absconded but the police have registered a case of attempted murder case against him.
Earlier this month in Rajasthan, in a dowry-related case, a trader hammered a nail into his pregnant wife’s head for not bringing enough dowry to the marriage.
Doctors found a three-centimetre nail lodged in the 24-year-old wife’s skull. — Bernama
