KUALA KRAI, 27 May 2009: PAS cannot claim that the Manik Urai state seat is its stronghold as Barisan Nasional (BN) had wrested it in the 1978 and 2004 general elections, said Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan.
“I can see the light at the end of the tunnel based on response from the people,” he told reporters after presenting food to the poor at Kampung Lela Jasa, Sungai Rek here today.
Ahmad, who is Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said the support from the younger generation, which dwindled in the last general election, was coming back to BN.
“Actually, it not true what we had lost the confidence of the younger generation. We do not lose all of them to the opposition.
“The youths can see for themselves now that the BN government under the new leadership is a responsible government,” he said.
The Manik Urai by-election is held following the death of its incumbent Ismail Yaacob on 22 May.
The Election Commission will meet tomorrow to decide on the nomination and polling dates. — Bernama
