SHAH ALAM, 10 Dec 2008: MCA Senator Datuk Lee Sing Chooi died at his home in Damansara Jaya yesterday, due to heart failure. He was 56.
Eldest son Jun Hao, 26, said his father was pronounced dead by Universiti Malaya Medical Centre paramedics who were summoned to the house at 11.30pm.
“My father had a coronary by-pass surgery about 20 years ago,” he told Bernama when contacted here today.
Apart from Jun Hao, Lee is survived by wife Datin Lim Yen Hong and two other children, Jun Heng, 24 and Xiao Qin, 20.
Lee, an MCA central committee member, was recently appointed the party’s Parliament Affairs Bureau chief recently.
The funeral is expected to be held on 12 Dec.
Wanita MCA chief Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun when contacted, said Lee was a leader who was very concerned with issues pertaining to Chinese education.
“He was known as the ‘Education Minister of MCA’ because of his strong determination to empower Chinese education to the highest level,” said Chew who had known Lee for the past 10 years.
Meanwhile, Selangor MCA Youth chief Dr Kow Cheong Wei said Lee was always committed in implementing his tasks.
“He worked hard for the party but was very quiet,” he added. — Bernama
