SEGAMAT, 18 Dec 2008: The managing director of a licensed money-lending company was found shot dead at a back lane in Jalan Orkid, off Jalan Genuang here today.
Datuk M Gunasegaran, 49, was believed to have been waylaid by a gunman while jogging behind a row of shops.
Two spent bullets were found at the scene of the murder which the police have not ruled out as the work of a hired killer.
Passers-by stumbled on the body of the victim — who had also owned a jewellery shop — about 6am.
Segamat police chief Supt Abd Majid Mohd Ali said the police had not determined the number of shots fired by the assailant.
He said the police would make a statement on the killing tomorrow.
A forensics team from the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman was at the scene.
Gunasegaran’s eldest son, Premanathan, said his father would normally go jogging with his mother but today, he went alone.
He said the police informed his family of the killing at 7.45am, adding that he last saw his father last night.
Gunasegaran is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Meanwhile, Johor MIC chairperson Datuk K S Balakrishnan said the victim was not associated with the party whatsoever. — Bernama
