KUCHING, 9 June 2009: The Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament (MP) woke up to find several broken molotov cocktail bottles in his house compound in Jalan Nyiur today.
However, Chong Chieng Jen, who is also Kota Sentosa assemblyperson and DAP vice-chairperson, has not ruled out that the incident was politically-motivated to instill fear in him.
“I believe it was to prevent me from performing my duties as an elected representative.
“It is not likely to be related to my legal work as I have not been active in my legal practice and seldom handled private cases over the past few years.
“However, this incident will not dissuade me from continuing my political struggle,” he told reporters when met at his house.
Chong’s parents, his wife and three children were at the house off Jalan Tabuan when their two maids informed them of the incident at about 7.30am.
Apart from the broken bottles, there were pieces of burnt cloth and kerosene in the compound.
Chong said this was the first time after 10 years as a politician that such an incident had occurred to him.
He has lodged a report at the Kuching police one-stop centre at Jalan Simpang Tiga here. — Bernama
