PENANG, 28 May 2009: Independent Nai Khan Ari Nai Keow is the only candidate, out of the four contesting for the Penanti state seat, who will be going to the polls on 31 May.
The 41-year-old company manager and former Telok Wang Gerakan Youth chief, will cast his vote in Telok Wang.
“I’ll be going to the polls alone on 31 May because my wife is registered in Kulim,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
Meanwhile, Penang Election Commission (EC) director, Morat Porat, when contacted, said the other three candidates were not registered voters in Penanti.
Nai Khan Ari will face Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate, Penang PKR deputy chairperson Mansor Othman, 56, and two other independent candidates — former Penang PKR Wanita chief Aminah Abdullah, 56, and motivational expert Kamarul Ramizu Idris, 42.
The Penanti by-election is held following Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin’s resignation as its assemblyperson on 16 April after stepping down as Penang Deputy Chief Minister I on 8 April. — Bernama
