KOTA BARU, 15 Feb: PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat has questioned the by-election dates for Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau as it they give advantage to Barisan Nasional (BN) as it will be held after the Umno assembly late next month.
He said the dates chosen seemed to suggest that BN had control over the Election Commissions (EC).
“It looked like there was some meddling from the authorities. If not, why hold it after the Umno assembly at the end of March,” he told reporters at Sultan Ismail Petra Airport, Pengkalan Chepa near here today.
Polling for the Bukit Gantang parliamentary and Bukit Selambau state by-elections in Perak and Kedah had been fixed for 7 April with nomination on 29 March.
Bukit Gantang fell vacant following the death of Roslan Shaharum of PAS on 9 Feb while Bukit Selambau was vacated by V Arumugam of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) on 8 Feb. — Bernama
