KOTA BARU, 30 Jan 2009: PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat described the ongoing development in Umno as a sign that the party was losing its “gravitational pull”.
The Kelantan Menteri Besar said if Umno were a tree, it was already reaching its wilting point.
“There is no more gravitational pull in Umno and its leaders are abandoning the party to join the opposition, especially PAS,” he told Bernama when met at an open house organised by state executive council member Datuk Anuar Tan.
He said that the latest development in Umno, which saw Bota state assemblyperson Datuk Nasaruddin Hashim joining Parti Keadilan Rakyat, was good for Pakatan Rakyat, particularly PAS, which had been striving to attract support.
Asked about the suggestion by Umno Disciplinary Board that Umno wings be dissolved to check money politics, Nik Abdul Aziz said, it was Umno’s own internal problem.
