KOTA BARU, 2 April 2009: Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat hopes that the state government will have closer ties with the federal government after Datuk Seri Najib Razak becomes Prime Minister.
The PAS spiritual leader expect positive changes as he did not want Kelantan to continue being victimised via the Kelantan Federal Development Department (JPPK).
He was commenting reports that Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin at Istana Negara today to present a letter to relinquish the post of Prime Minister and to seek consent to appoint Najib as his successor.
Najib is scheduled to be sworn in as the new Prime Minister at Istana Negara tomorrow.
Nik Aziz said he still could not accept the creation of JPPK by the federal government since PAS started ruling Kelantan in 1990.
“JPPK must be transparent when it comes to giving out tenders,” he told reporters at a prize presentation ceremony for excellent students of Kolej Teknologi Darulnaim (KTD), Pengkalan Chepa here today.
The menteri besar said he had some fond memories during Abdullah’s tenure as prime minister.
The sweetest was when Abdullah and Najib visited him when undergoing treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) last year.
“Thank you very much. I hope the new Prime Minister can bring change not only to Kelantan but the country as a whole,” he said. — Bernama
