KUALA LUMPUR, 3 Nov 2008: The police do not practise double standard in the issuing of permits for gatherings by political parties, non-governmental organisations and the public, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh said national security and public order were the main criteria for the police to determine the status of any application to hold a gathering, whether it was from government parties or the opposition.
An applicant who was denied approval could appeal to the Inspector-General of Police within 48 hours, he said when replying to a supplementary question from Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan). — Bernama
