PENANG, 10 April 2009: The Penang state government today appointed 13 professionals to the Penang Appeals Board.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the board, chaired by Penang High Court judge Datuk Abdul Rahim Uda, comprised lawyers, academicians and engineers.
“The board is an independent body and its members are professionals, not politicians,” he said in his speech here in a ceremony to present letters of appointment to the board members.
Lim said the board, established in 1986, hears appeals from the public if they are disappointed or dissatisfied with the Local Planning Authority’s decisions.
He said since its establishment, it had received 327 cases and there were now 80 pending cases.
“I hope that with these appointments, the pending cases are heard and fair decisions made,” he said. — Bernama
