REMBAU, 4 April 2009: Umno Youth will not seek to have any of its representatives in the new cabinet to be announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak soon, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said today.
“The appointment of ministers is the prerogative of the prime minister,” he told reporters after a visit to a Batang Nyamor Homestay event organised by the Negeri Sembilan Tourism Action Council near here.
Najib, who assumed the post of prime minister yesterday, is expected to announce his cabinet line-up next week.
Khairy also said that Najib’s decision to release 13 Internal Security Act (ISA) detainees showed that the government was not oppressive.
He said Umno Youth welcomed the pledge by the new prime minister to review the ISA. — Bernama
