KUCHING, 19 June 2009: National Service Training Department director-general Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil has warned of legal action against 6,804 National Service (NS) trainees who failed to take part in the programme in 2004.
He said although the recently amended National Service Act 2003 only required such candidates to engage in community service, the department would nevertheless seek advice from the defence ministry and discuss with the attorney-general’s chambers before taking further action.
Abdul Hadi was speaking to Bernama after visiting the Juara camp in Serian, in conjuction with the new intake of 320 trainees from throughout the country, including Sarawak.
He added that there is a total of 22,687 Group 3 NS trainees currently placed in 83 camps nationwide. — Bernama
