KUALA LUMPUR, 2 July 2009: PAS Youth today called on the government to make sure there is no abuse of power or corruption in the implementation of government policies to enable the economic liberalisation measures announced by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak achieve their objectives.
PAS Youth information chief Suhaizan Kaiat said in a statement here today that abuse of power and corruption would derail the government’s efforts towards economic liberalisation.
On 30 June, the prime minister announced several economic liberalisation measures, which included the removal of 30% bumiputera equity for listed companies; limit on foreign equity participation in stockbroking companies raised to 70% from 49%; and the setting up of an investment institution called Ekuiti Nasional Berhad (Ekuinas).
Suhaizan said PAS Youth also felt that the government should strive harder to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor in the country. — Bernama
