“Hearsay and sweeping statements are unfair to Sarawak”
Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, dismissing allegations by the Bruno Manser Foundation about Penan women and girls being sexually abused by loggers. In an interview on 24 Sept 2008, he also urged the foundation not to paint a negative picture of Sarawak and to respect the truth.
“Jabu wants the police to investigate the reports of alleged sexual abuse, and if found to be true, the suspects must be dealt with severely.”
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen announcing at a press conference on 7 Oct 2008 that her ministry received a faxed statement on the matter from the Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu on 3 Oct. Jabu had in the statement condemned any form of violence, including sexual abuse of women and children.
