PENANG, 13 Jan 2009: An old man suffered burns and 14 families were left homeless after a fire destroyed 10 wooden houses in Jalan Datuk Keramat early today.
Perak Road Fire and Rescue Station officer-in-charge Sharul Nizam said the 65-year-old man suffered 70% burns and was rushed to hospital following the 3.50am fire.
He said 50 fire fighters from four stations aided by 33 volunteer fire fighters helped to bring the blaze, which was fanned by strong winds, under control in about 45 minutes after the station was notified at 4.03am.
The cause of the fire and the resulting loss has yet to be ascertained, he added. — Bernama
