IPOH, 2 Feb 2009: Perak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chairperson Osman Abdul Rahman said today that PKR still considers the Behrang and Changkat Jering assemblypersons as the party’s elected representatives.
In a Bernama report, he said that so far, the two had not made any announcement to the contrary.
“We have not received any resignation letter from them,” he told reporters at the PKR office here.
Osman also said that PKR was still unable to contact the two.
Behrang assemblyperson Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi and Changkat Jering assemblyperson Mohd Osman Jailu went “missing” for days last week, fuelling speculations that they were joining Barisan Nasional.
The duo “reappeared” last night to deny an announcement made by state legislative assembly speaker V Sivakumar earlier yesterday, that he had received resignation letters from the two state assemblypersons.
In response to this, Jamaluddin and Mohd Osman said the letters were the undated resignation letters which they signed after the 12th general election in March 2008.
They also said they were still with PKR and had never declared that they have left the party.
Jamaluddin and Mohd Osman would hold a separate news conference in Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur respectively this afternoon.
Earlier today, Sivakumar handed an official letter to the Election Commission (EC) informing that the Behrang and Changkat Jering seats are now vacant.
In a one-paragraph statement faxed to Bernama here, he said, the letter was handed over to Perak EC director Ahmad Adli Abdullah at 8am at the EC office here.
