PUTRAJAYA, 10 Aug 2009: The Permatang Pasir state by-election has been fixed for 25 Aug 2009 while the nomination will be on 17 Aug, the Election Commission announced today, Bernama reports.
The eight-day campaigning period will be held during the fasting month of Ramadhan.
The by-election is being held because of the death of the PAS incumbent, Datuk Mohd Hamdan Abdul Rahman, on 31 July.
The seat is in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency for which Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is the Member of Parliament.
Both the Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat have already indicated that they will be contesting the seat.
