KUALA LUMPUR, 24 Nov 2008: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Youth said today it agreed with a proposed resolution of the PKR women’s wing for the party’s elected representatives to resign if they become embroiled in sex scandals and corruption.
PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said it would be the best way to ensure that the party was clean and gained more support from the people.
“PKR Youth feels that the resolution is good and we support it. No matter at which level (of elected representation), the person should resign if he or she is involved (in sex scandals or corruption),” he told reporters at the party headquarters here.
Yesterday, Wanita PKR chief Zuraida Kamaruddin told a news conference she would table a resolution calling for the party’s elected representatives who become embroiled in sex scandals and corruption to resign, and that the elected representatives be required to hand in a pre-signed resignation letter for the purpose.
Meanwhile, PKR Youth is expected to table three resolutions, on the party, politics and the economy, at its annual congress on 28 Nov.
Shamsul Iskandar said the youth congress was also expected to discuss the pledges made by Pakatan Rakyat in its election manifesto, including on a minimum wage of RM1,500 a month. — Bernama
