MALACCA, 18 March 2009: The Malacca Chief Minister’s political secretary, Saadun Basirun, whose party membership was suspended by the Umno Disciplinary Board after being found guilty of indulging in money politics, will appeal against the decision.
“I accept the decision of the Disciplinary Board with an open heart and I wish to appeal following the suspension of my Umno membership,” he told reporters, here today.
Saadun, who was described by Disciplinary Board Chairperson Tan Sri Tengku Ahmad Rithauddeen Tengku Ismail as an agent to Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam, had his Umno membership suspended for three years or one election term under clause 20.9 (c) of the Umno Constitution.
Two other agents who were implicated and received the same punishment were Bukit Katil Umno division committee member Rosli Hassan and Puteri vice-head of the same division, Zalina Ismail.
Yesterday, Tengku Ahmad Rithauddeen announced that Mohd Ali, who is also the Bukit Katil Umno division head, was found to have links with the three members of the division who were found guilty of money politics and was thus barred from contesting the party deputy presidency.
Saadun, who was appointed political secretary to Mohd Ali after the last general election, said he was only suspended as an Umno member but would continue his task as political secretary. — Bernama
