KUALA LUMPUR, 25 Aug 2008: The Malaysian Muslim Solidarity Movement (PPPIM) today handed a protest memorandum on the integrated pig farming project in Sepang to the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club in Parliament.
PPPIM chairman Datuk Zulkifli Mohamad said the memorandum was submitted to the Backbenchers Club deputy chairman Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin following the Selangor government’s failure to give feedback on a similar memorandum that was sent on 6 Aug.
Zulkifli said a similar memorandum had also been forwarded to the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, on 20 Aug.
“We are asking for the pig farming project to be stopped immediately and that existing pig farms be moved to other areas.
“This is not a racial issue, but the project will have adverse health effects as the proposed site is too close to human settlement,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby. – Bernama
