KUALA LUMPUR, 25 March 2009: Former Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz accepted the decision of the delegates who did not give their votes to her to continue to lead the movement.
“I accept the delegates’ choice. Congratulations to the new head and the executive committee line-up. I hope they will look after Wanita Umno well and serve the party, people and country,” she said via a short messaging service (SMS) when asked for her reaction on the contest which was won by former vice-chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
Rafidah received 280 votes against Shahrizat who garnered 507 votes.
Rafidah helmed the movement since 1988 but lost in 1996 to Datuk Dr Siti Zaharah Sulaiman by 27 votes.
Rafidah won back the post in 2000 when she beat Zaharah by 12 votes and retained it until the contest today. — Bernama

I hope politicians that are entrusted with OUR money and country serve in the priority of “people, country, party”, not “party” first. Serving party first ahead of the people means abuse of our money for their party is likely.
