“Tony Pua Kiam Wee, [are you] so brave? What do you want now? When you walk, you [had] better look front, back, left, right, down and up. Why? I know about your family, house, office, car (with the registration number given). You [had] better think about it.”
Anonymous note sent to Petaling Jaya Utara Member of Parliament (MP) Tony Pua’s service centre in Damansara Utama, accompanied by a live bullet.
Earlier in August, Pua had suggested that bumiputera discounts for houses over RM500,000 should be scrapped, provoking warnings from some quarters not to “play with fire”. (Source: Bullet for Tony Pua, The Malay Mail, 12 Aug 2010)
Response from politicians
“Although I have some differences in opinions with Pua, such a threat against his life is not only extreme, but unacceptable in a peace-loving society like ours. I hope the police will be able to provide an assurance on the safety of Pua and his family.”

New Straits Times editor: “Comes with the job”
“Pua, an outspoken Ivy League alumnus, said an envelope bearing a Tangkak, Johor, postal mark and containing a bullet and note was mailed to his service centre in Damansara Utama.
“Perhaps the young MP (Pua) should know that this kind of intimidation comes with the job, especially the harder jobs of the world, like being a newspaper editor.”
New Straits Times group editor Syed Nadzri Syed Harun in a 17 Aug 2010 commentary. Syed Nadzri cited the threat against Pua, the discovery of a spy camera in Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim‘s office, and the issue of support letters as possible signs of administration fatigue in Selangor. Yeah, I guess if I got a bullet in the mailbox, I should take it in stride too.

What’s the name for this kind of ‘bravado’? Similar to the kind that accepts wars as a means to an end? And that comes up with terms like “collateral damage”?
neptunian says
Funny you should sat that. To be more accurate, receiving bullets comes with the job if you are a non-BN MP.
