KUALA LUMPUR, 16 Jan 2009: The ringgit was higher against the US dollar in early trading today as investors liquidate their greenback positions ahead of the weekend break, dealers said.
Hence, the US dollar was under pressure in the early morning, a dealer said.
At 9.00am, the ringgit was traded at 3.3300/3333 against the US dollar compared with yesterday’s closing of 3.3380/3405.
Against the other major currencies, the ringgit was mixed, depreciating against the Singapore dollar to 2.3989/4042 from yesterday’s closing 2.3988/4037 as well as against the British pound, to 5.2584/2679 from 5.2407/2480.
However, compared with the yen, the ringgit appreciated at 3.9778/9856 from 4.0546/0605, and also rose against the euro to 4.7148/7224 from 4.7292/7359 previously. — Bernama
