MIRI, 3 Feb 2009: At least RM16 million is needed to immediately repair state and Federal roads affected by floods and landslides which hit Miri Division the last few weeks, Sarawak Assistant Minister for Infrastructure Development and Communications Lee Kim Shin said here today.
He said the money was also required to raise the level of some of the roads that had been inundated.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting some of the damaged roads, he said the roads involved included the Bakam-Kampung Kejapil Road, Miri-Sibuti Road, Kuala Baram Road, Kampung Padang Road, Marudi Road, Kampung Narum Marudi Riad and Tanjung Kidurong-Suai-Bakam-Road.
The worst-hit was Km14 of the Bakam-Kampung Kejapil Road where some 50 metres of the stretch collapsed and would cost about RM700,000 and three months to do the repair works, he said.
As a temporary measure, a gravel access road would be built within this month to link the collapsed part, he added. — Bernama
