SHAH ALAM, 11 Feb 2009: The Selangor government is willing to take over the assets and water resources of the state’s four water concession companies as part of the restructuring initiatives for the water service industry.
Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the state exco meeting today agreed to offer a quotation to take over the assets and equity of the four companies concerned – Konsortium ABASS Sdn Bhd (Abass), Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Pengeluaran Air Selangor Holdings Berhad (SPLASH) and Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas).
“The state government feels the offer made to the concession companies concerned is reasonable, taking into account the interests of everyone, and will not incur losses to anyone,” Khalid told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting at his office, at the state secretariat, today.
He said he hoped the restructuring process for the water supply industry in Selangor could be implemented before 31 March, according to the stipulation by the Energy, Water and Communications Ministry. — Bernama

The Selangor govt shouldn’t take over these water companies. Instead they should allow more companies to manage water resources and allow consumers the freedom to choose which water supply company they would want to pay to.
