SHAH ALAM, 16 March 2009: Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim will discuss with Elizabeth Wong this weekend her request to resign as state executive councillor and Bukit Lanjan assemblyperson.
Khalid said Wong, who is on her way home from vacation, had asked to see him today but he had to postpone the meeting to the weekend because he was busy with the ongoing state assembly sitting.
“I have to set aside ample time for the discussion with her,” he told reporters at the lobby of the state assembly hall here today.
He was responding to questions on the latest development regarding Wong who was asked to go on leave for a month after the state assembly deferred decision on her request to resign following the posting of her semi-nude pictures on the internet.
Asked whether it was an offence for a state executive councillor to take more than a month’s leave, Khalid said it was not because he had the power to extend the leave.
He said Wong’s leave should have ended yesterday but was extended at his discretion because Wong, the state Tourism, consumer Affairs and Environment Committee chairman, had obtained prior consent of the Speaker not to attend the state assembly sitting.
Yesterday Khalid told the media that the state government had yet to decide on Wong’s request and would only do so after receiving the police report on the matter although Wong’s leave ended yesterday. — Bernama
