KOTA KINABALU, 1 June 2009: Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) vice-president Cyril Yansalang today proposed that the Kaamatan Festival celebrations at the state and federal level be held simultaneously on 31 May next year.
He said the move would not only raise the status of the Pesta Kaamatan as a prestigious celebration but would also reduce the cost of organising it.
Usually, the climax of the Kaamatan Festival at the state-level is held for two days on 30 and 31 May at the Dewan KDCA every year.
“It will be better if the state-level celebration next year is held on 30 May and the national-level on 31 May at the same venue,” Yansalang told Bernama here.
He welcomed the federal government’s decision through the Information, Communications and Culture Ministry to hold the national-level Kaamatan Festival at Padang Merdeka, near here, on 7 June with the state government’s cooperation.
Yansalang said this reflected the government’s commitment and seriousness in recognising the Kaamatan Festival as a major cultural festival.
