KUALA LUMPUR, 31 March 2009: A special website to monitor how funds to implement the two economic stimulus packages are spent will be launched next week, Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Kong Cho Ha told the Dewan Negara today.
He said the website, “www.rangsanganekonomi.treasury.gov.my.” would enlighten the public on the programmes, projects, and the progress of both packages.
“We are transparent on the details of the initiatives and how the funds are spent.
“Information on the allocations and the amount spent, the number of projects implemented and their progress will be posted on the website,” he said when replying to a question from Senator Khoo Soo Seang today.
Kong said the website would let the public know how the government was spending on the economic stimulus packages, their status, the spending levels and the progress of the projects.
“We are doing this out of our concern on our accountability to ensure that the money spent reach the target groups,” he said.
To the original question from Khoo, Kong said RM6.5 billion from the first economic stimulus package had been handed out to the respective ministries.
A total of 14,255 projects costing RM1.584 billion are being implemented, he said, adding that this included 6,621 projects under the Public Infrastructure Maintenance Programme and the Basic Infrastructure Project by the Implementation Coordination Unit. — Bernama
