KUALA LUMPUR, 7 Dec 2008: A total of 68 water catchment areas in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are categorised as critical and can cause a landslide at any time.
Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd Executive Chairman, Tan Sri Rozali Ismail said attention had been given to these catchment areas and efforts were being taken by Syabas to upgrade their condition.
“This (effort) is necessary to ensure that the landslide incident would not recur. Even if it (the landslide) is minor, but because of the presence of water it could turn bad and give a big impact,” he said when met at the landslide scene at Bukit Antarabangsa, here, today.
He said so far, 42 water catchment areas had been upgraded and preserved by Syabas.
There are 1,200 water catchment areas in the whole of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya which could produce 1,300 gallons of water.
Meanwhile, Rozali said the water supply to thousands of residents in Bukit Antarabangsa was resumed yesterday evening. Only 200 houses had yet to have their water supply restored. — Bernama
