KUALA LUMPUR, 23 Dec 2008: Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) today clarified that it only approved for broadcast, songs that contain moral values and use decent language, besides technical aspects that have been agreed upon by the evaluation panel.
“Songs sent in by individuals or recording companies to be aired come under the purview of RTM’s Song Evaluation Panel,” said RTM in a statement today pertaining to the unsuitability of the poetic song Aku Bukan Musuh Harta (I Am Not An Enemy of Wealth) penned by former Perlis Mufti Dr Asri Zainul Abidin.
This poem is among eight by Asri which have been turned into song lyrics for the album titled Yang Benar Tetap Benar (The Truth Would Always Be The Truth) by the group, Kopratasa, and other singers.
RTM, in the statement, also said that it had never labelled any song sent in by the recording companies for evaluation as “haram” (forbidden in Islam). — Bernama
