SHAH ALAM, 19 March 2009: The RM70,000 suit by a businessperson against his ex-fiancée for breaking off their engagement a month before their wedding has been deferred as both parties intend to settle the case out of court.
Lower Syariah Court Judge Kamarulzaman Ali here today fixed 11 May for re-mention after counsel Ahmad Nazib Johari who represented Muhammad Salleh Muhamad Yusuf, 46, asked for the postponement saying that the discussion between him and the lawyer for Nur Diana Ahmad Zubir, 28, was still ongoing.
Nur Diana’s lawyer, Abdul Halim Bahari, did not object to the application and said both parties would leave it to the court to hear the case if the discussion failed to reach a settlement.
When judge Kamarulzaman asked both parties whether the discussion involves a mediator, Nazib said it was between lawyers and so far, Salleh and Nur Diana not been brought to meet each other.
Salleh from Malacca and Nur Diana of Kuala Lumpur got engaged on 4 Feb last year and planned to have their wedding on 17 Jan. On 4 Dec, however, the woman’s father sent two text messages to Salleh to break off the engagement. — Bernama
