KUALA KRAI, 19 June 2009: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin said today Muslims who vote for either the Barisan Nasional (BN) or PAS have an equal chance of going to heaven.
He said what could prevent them from going to heaven was their sins and not their votes for a political party.
He said both the BN and PAS fought for the Islamic cause, but what set them apart was that the BN had the strength and capability to bring progress to the country.
“The capability of the BN to develop the country is stronger compared with that of PAS under the leadership of spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat,” he said at a meeting with educationists at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Sok here.
Muhyiddin, who is also education minister, said PAS did not have the capability to develop the country.
As such, voters in Manik Urai should be rational and make a wise choice if they wanted to enjoy better livelihood and development in their constituency, he said. — Bernama

We don’t know about voters going to heaven, but hypocrites who claim to be good Muslims but cannot resist fondling members of the opposite sex or pocketing thick brown envelopes are not likely to make it there. And we can guess from which party they belong.

The quality of some of our ministers is bringing mockery to the nation. Recently, the Education Minister/DPM said that he was surprised that it is not compulsory for candidates to pass English to be awarded the SPM certificate; and now he has made another ridiculous statement saying that Muslims who vote for either BN or PAS have an equal chance of going to heaven.
I appeal to ministers and politicians from both the ruling party and the opposition, when making a statement, please ensure that it is of quality substance. Making a ridiculous statement (especially by a minister) is making you and the country a laughing stock.

That last paragraph sounds like a threat to withhold development.

I think ultimately God will decide who can go to heaven.
About BN’s capability to develop the country, I believe our Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin forgets to include corruption as being part of the package.
Well, I prefer a cleaner, less developed nation than a corrupted developed country.

Er. I love The Nut Graph and all, but this headline seems more like sensationalising news than anything. If I hadn’t clicked to read i would’ve gotten the impression that Muhyiddin’s implying those who don’t, go to hell. Might be just me.
