KUALA LUMPUR, 17 Jan 2009: Vandals splashed corrosive liquid believed to be a bleaching agent on 25 cars at the Aman Apartment in Jinjang Utara here early today causing damage estimated at RM50,000.
The incident came to light when some residents came across the damage as they were leaving for work at about 6am.
A resident, Suhaimi Mohd Abdul Rashid, 33, said he heard some noises and thought a resident was dumping rubbish into the trash area.
“But when I went down I was shocked to notice that the paintwork of my Honda Civic had peeled off. I bought the car three days ago,” he said.
Another resident, Saiful Nizam Abd Rahim, 33, said he thought somebody had vomited on his Proton Iswara until he realised that the paintwork had peeled off.
“I thought I was the only victim until I realised that there were others as well. We believed the vandals might have used a bleaching agent.
“Some residents claimed that they spotted two motorcyclists behaving suspiciously in the area earlier,” he said.
Sentul police chief ACP Zakaria Pagan said 25 car owners had lodged police reports on the incident and damage was estimated at RM50,000.
“We will investigate the vandalism and several individuals were believed to be behind it,” he said. — Bernama
