KUALA LUMPUR, 24 March 2009: Police detained two men for selling illegal books at the Putra World Trade Centre, the venue for the Umno general assembly, here.
Dang Wangi OCPD ACP Zulkarnain Abd Rahman said both men were arrested under the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 for selling books which did not bear the publisher’s name and address.
“They were arrested while selling the books,” he said when contacted today.
Zulkarnain said police were monitoring all aspects of security at the general assembly to ensure that there were no unlawful activities, including the sale of prohibited materials.
He said police had set up a control centre at Bilik Melaka at the PWTC to monitor the situation throughout the general assembly, which started today until Saturday.
“We have stationed a sufficient number of personnel to ensure security and safety at the venue,” he said. — Bernama
