SHAH ALAM, 9 Sept 2008: A woman died in hospital after being stabbed and slashed by a gang of four robbers, two of whom were shot dead, in a robbery at a house in Section 13 early this morning.
Raja Noriana Raja Ahmad, 41, died at the Selangor Medical Centre near here from injuries sustained during a struggle with the robbers while her 18-year-old daughter suffered spinal injuries when she jumped from the first floor of the house to escape, Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar told reporters at the scene.
Another daughter, aged 20, who also jumped, had light injuries while Raja Noriana’s husband managed to escape from the ground floor.
Khalid said police received a report at 4.45am and upon arrival, found two suspects outside the house.
"Police detained the two but there were two more robbers in the house," he said.
He said that upon realising that their accomplices had been arrested the two inside the house took Raja Noriana hostage in the master bedroom but her husband and two daughters managed to escape.
"Negotiations with the two suspects for the release of the hostage lasted about three hours but they refused to cooperate and set fire to the room and injured the victim," he said.
The police then stormed the house and shot dead the two suspects, who were armed with a pistol and several parang.
Raja Noriana was found stabbed in the neck and slashed on the shoulder with a parang. She was rushed to the Selangor Medical Centre but died at 9.25am.
Khalid said preliminary investigation showed that all the robbers were in their 20s and were believed to be from the same gang which was involved in six robberies in the Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan.
One of them had an expired passport while the others carried no travel documents.
He said police also found that the pistol used by the gang was stolen during a robbery at the home of a civil servant in Section 3 last Wednesday.
Raja Noriana and her family had only recently moved into the house which is in a newly-completed housing estate. Most of the houses are still unoccupied. The security guard of the housing estate was found tied up, Khalid said.
Police believe there are two more members of the gang who are still at large. – Bernama
