KOTA KINABALU, 30 Nov 2008: Former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Zaid Ibrahim must explain his presence at Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR)’s national congress in Shah Alam yesterday.
Umno vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Zaid must explain to the party’s disciplinary board before action is taken against him.
Muhyiddin, who is also International Trade and Industry Minister, said Zaid’s presence at the congress yesterday was not the first time he had attended an opposition gathering, and this proved his disloyalty to Umno.
“It doesn’t make sense that he attended a gathering by the opposition. This (Zaid’s presence) is seen as giving moral support to the opposition.
“He has to be responsible for his actions,” Muhyiddin told reporters today during a meeting with editors-in-chief and bureau chiefs of national and local media in Sabah here.
According to media reports, Zaid said he was still an Umno member and did not see the opposition as enemies.
Zaid also said his presence at the congress showed that he was still interested in politics and that he did not expect to be sacked from Umno. — Bernama
