IPOH, 20 Feb 2009: Newly-appointed Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said he and his six state executive councillors do not want to be hasty like the Speaker from the Pakatan Rakyat who suspended them from attending the state assembly.
“We don’t want to be like them. We will use the law to resolve the present situation,” he told reporters after Friday prayers at the Sultan Yusuf Mosque at Rapat Setia here today.
Zambry was commenting on the decision by Speaker V Sivakumar to suspend them, and the statement by Bar Council president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan that the suspension could not be challenged in court.
“It is just one of several views. I don’t want to dwell on this as I want to discharge my duty as the menteri besar who has the consent of and was appointed by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah,” he said.
Zambry also expressed regret that some people had insulted Perak Mufti Datuk Seri Harussani Zakaria in blogs and talks because the latter did not share their opinion on the political events in the state recently.
Zambry said Harussani’s views should be respected by all as he was a man of noble character.
“Barisan Nasional was not spared either but that does not mean that he (Harussani) does not like us. He was only pointing out things based on the law.” — Bernama
